In response to the dizzying hype of Halo 3, Best Buy has announced it will be giving out this all new Halo 3 themed Pontiac G6 GXP Street Edition to one VERY lucky winner. Interested contestants need to pick up a copy of Halo 3 (not necessarily from BB so far as we can tell), then hit up this site on launch day to register. Might, I recommend doing it immediately? After that, a total of around 144 random winners will get a huge mega collection of Microsoft Points. Following that drawing, one of those 144 will be selected to win the grand prize Halo 3 Pontiac. Not a bad deal , since all you have to do is register and play one of the coolest games coming out this year! Personally, I think this is very cool. A Halo 3 car? How much more hype can you get? Apparently this car will be able to handle your Xbox 360 and access Xbox Live from a built in Broadband adapter in the vehicle. Sounds awesome right? So get ready to register SVGX users, because it is going to be one hell of a contest!

Ninja Gaiden 2 Screens Leaked!

September 11, 2007

Well, today Ninja Gaiden 2 had it’s screenshots leaked early then planned, and we here at supervgx have brought them to you to enjoy. So less talk, and more enjoying.

~Joshua Cummins~

Halo has always had customizable maps, gametypes and etc. Halo has always been missing something in ways of Master Chief variety. Well now you have a better Elite that is more balanced,  Master Chief is now customizable(as well as Elite), with an increased color palette to choose from and more emblems to pick for both types of players, but Armor Permutations are up and running to add individuality. By customizing your chest plate, the helmet and both of your shoulder pieces (individually), and working on them with color and emblem you can really make yourself stand out and recognizable.
Also keep an eye out for suit unlockables. Some of Master Chiefs various suits may be unlocked like ones from novels, comics and what not.

Look at that nice Character design screen. Check out some new emblems.

Now for the item review.

promo Bubble Shield & Portable Cover

The deployable Bubble Shield was very enjoyable in the BETA, and even more so in single player. Even for your enemies… It also combines incredibly well with the full array of weapons and equipment, and has endless cool uses against human and A.I. foes.

Heres a new one, The Portable Shield can be dropped anywhere for protection from a single direction, and you can fire from behind it (while blocking all incoming fire as well). Unlike the bubble shield, it will stay on the map until it is destroyed. We didn’t get to try it out in multiplayer, but it should provide a perfect spot of cover for a doorway or sniper perch. Or in front of a flag carrier. It should be fun.

Regenerator & Invincibility
You all remember the Power drain form the Beta right? Well the regenerator works the opposite way.It will constantly be recharging the shields of anyone standing in its radius of coverage. It’s a great defensive item, especially for guarding flags, hills, etc., as it essentially makes you invulnerable, not counting one hit kills, like headshots, rockets, and laser shots. I wonder what would happen if a regenerator was placed next to a power-drain? Interesting…

Invincibility should be self-explanatory; so far it’s only been seen in single player, but Bungie has said it will be — sparingly — in multiplayer. It makes the user completely invincible for about seven seconds, and I can’t wait to try it out, and experiment. Spike grenades + Invincible person? Hmmm…

Last time we went over Last Resort and Guardian. Well now it’s time to hit up 2 all new maps to Halo 3: Sandtrap and Epitaph.

Doesn’t this level look huge?

Sandtrap

Let’s start the overview with Sandtrap. The huge level with lots of vehicle combat and weapons fire. This map is a vehicle lovers heaven! It has almost every vehicle in the game on this level. Wraiths, mongooses, warthogs, brute chopper, hornets, ghosts, elephants, and pelicans! There’s even a banshee set off to the far side! There are huge ruins buried beneath the dunes of sandtrap and serve mostly as cover on the map and refuges. It may be a long walk, but you will be rewarded with a good array of anti-vehicle weapons upon arrival. The bases are HUGE obelisks and they have a large pit in front of them fit for close combat battles and massive carnage.

Most of you are probably most excited about the huge new mobile base The Elephant. An enormous, indestructible transport that comes loaded with a Mongoose and armed with a mounted gun turret, the Elephant can serve as a spawn point and a capture point during Flag games. The driving controls are in the front of the machine and it moves VERY slowly. Combined with the hectic pace of the ample traditional vehicles already on the map, it allows for some interesting tug-of-war matches of bringing the flag capture points closer to one another, and finding effective ways to raid the elephant. This level is sure to be a blast for any and all who play.

Elite vs. Spartan

Epitaph

Halo meets religion in the all new cathedral based level, Epitaph. Set in a Forerunner cathedral of sorts towering miles above the desert, Epitaph offers close-quarters, multi-level engagements that fall somewhere between the design aesthetics of Midship and Foundation. Two large intersecting hallways make up the majority of the indoor space, with gravity lifts that lead to second-story ledges and platforms on each of the far corners. You can find a Gravity Hammer in the dead center of the level and a Rocket Launcher on a platform floating in the archways above. The connecting walkways that run around the outside of the level house a jubilee of weapons and one of those shield rooms you had in Snowbound on the Beta.

Epitaph mostly target mid-range and close combat, and try’s to make you get to use it’s hidden advantages to get the upside of your pursuers . You can jump your way up to high ledges that overlook parts of the level below, however, most of the fighting will take place in passageway wings. It’s a very simple level structurally, and really focuses on making the most of the weapons and equipment you find. The Gravity Hammer led to several ridiculously long killing sprees, and the shield doors sure helped in some tight spots. But not to worry. there are plenty of ways on stopping those wily inventive types…

~ZeldaMaster~

As you all know the Halo 3 Beta came with three all new maps to play on:Valhalla,Highground, and Snowbound. Well I have just recently received info on remakes/re-imaginings of maps from Halo 2. And I will be covering these with you. And pretty soon I will have information on 3 all new maps to Halo 3. But for now you’ll just have to wait.

Melee combat in Guardian.

Guardian

Bungie has made it very clear that Guardian is not a re-make of Lockout, despite what many people though. That being said, it has a purposefully similar layout and pace to it to make it feel somewhat like Lockout. But it has even more emphasis on nailing jumps to travel through the level efficiently.A pair of man-cannons can easily transport you over the large central platform, even though you coul dbe a sniper target, if you make you will have a good advantage to the ground bound players. It also has a noticeably tighter design than Lockout, so you have less a chance to be sniped when walking out in the open, and more balanced, centralized locations for the Energy Sword and Shotgun.

The actual look of it is quite different from Lockout.Where Lockout was an icy murky level,Guardian has a more organic lighter feel to it. Somewhat like Backwash from Halo 2. The rooms and tunnels provide for good combat areas, with plenty of hiding places from teh carnage of the central platform. Guardian really stands out in small team games of Slayer and Oddball, where the close quarters and circular design of the map (very few dead ends) allow for some great games of cat-and-mouse between the two stories of walkways, and seperat firefights that take place on the lower levels and the higher grav lifts.

Last Resort

Last Resort

Lockout might be the most played Halo 2 map, but Zanzibar was more closely associated with multi-player experience. Halo maps are built around specific gametypes, and Zanzibar — now beautifully remade as Last Resort in Halo 3 — masters capture the flag and asymmetrical styles quite well. It looks even better than Zanzibar and it has some new twists. The back wall of the base side of the level houses a second entrance gate that leads into the depths of the base. The base itself is a lot bigger inside, plenty of room to turn around at least two vehicles in the base, and a more open path to the flag. The gates have been remade as well, and now are completely open at the top. And I am sure that you guys will find ways to hop through it or surf on in.

Access to the base, and visibility inside the base is also increased as there is a huge catwalk running from the the base to the left side of Camp Forman to the lower. But having a quick way into the base is balanced by that path being completely open to the ground and surrounding buildings. So watch yourself. Camp Forman no whas a larger bottom level and different weapons to be found there making a good access to that side of the level. There a few more small structural changes scattered across the level, but all in all, it is the same level we came to know in love in countless Halo 2 battles. Just some new weapons and vehicles to change things up a little bit. Keep on the lookout for my updates on those 3 new maps. Thanks for reading.

Halo 3 Preview: The Storm

August 24, 2007

You guys remember the Tsavo Highway Halo 3 update right? An hour-long battle through Covenant barricades into the occupied city of Voi along a badly-damaged Kenyan freeway, Tsavo Highway made for a pretty good introduction to the game. It featured vehicular combat, large-scale encounters and plenty of on-foot action — not to mention great graphics and plenty of ties to the events of the previous game. But variety is a Halo trademark (the original game’s duplicate levels aside), and if mission four — entitled The Storm — is any indication, Halo 3 won’t be found wanting.

WARNING: This detailed coverage of Halo 3 may reveal some things about the campaign that you won’t want to spoil yourself for. Nothing really big, but you have been Advised.

Unlike Tsavo Highway, a largely open, vehicle-oriented stage set in the countryside, The Storm takes place in more urban areas. The mission begins with Master Chief up in a convoy of Warthogs heading into the city of Voi. At times reminiscent of the Halo 2 level Outskirts, The Storm has its own unique feel to it. Cramped interiors lead into immense open courtyards; tiny little fights become vehicular free-for-alls in an instant. And the mission leads to Master Chief battling it out with two of the biggest foes he had ever faced.

The Storm begins with a ride into Voi on the back of a Warthog, but the action ends up shifting to on-foot.

The difference between Storm and Outskirts is industrialization. It’s set in an industrialized area of Voi. When Outskirts places people in New Mombasa’s residential areas, fighting from house to house, In the Storm it takes places mostly in large factories and warehouses. One thing it’s not is a copy past industrial area. Each area is different from the other. For example, one second you’ll be in a corridor with gun racks, the next you’ll be in a warehouse with high windows reflecting the days weather at you. Or one building is fully made of old concrete, the next just plain old wood. You’ll take down drones in storage rooms, but only after you killed the command leaders in the doorway. It’s just so diverse. It’s amazing!

When your inside a building, your fighting strategy is completely different from when you are outside on the streets. You need to change. On the streets cover is VERY limited, and your enemy comes at you in hordes, often on vehicles too. Grunts, no longer serve only as ground units operating gunnery. Now they can pilot GHOSTS AND BANSHEES! When you realize this, it comes at the worst possible moment. When Covenant light ships corner you and a handful of marines in a small open corridor. This situation is going to take all of your skill and cunning actions to defeat. You really will need it, since a Wraith is constantly bombarding you with Plasma bombs from across the way in a courtyard. (May I recommend, getting on Ghost to move at you and then quickly sidestep and high jack it from them. Commence FIRE!)

The covenant aren’t the only one with vehicle. The humans will sometimes drop you a Warthog or Mongoose to help you out. And In the sky’s above, countless Banshees find themselves running from the Human’s Hornets.

Once you take care of the drones, you will meet up with Marines on Mongooses. They will let you hop on a mongoose and they will lend you their trusty rocket launcher marine to sit at your back. Nice huh? Well then you go and take out some Wraiths. Assuming you succeed in this battle, DON”T party yet! Because a huge Scarab comes in to block your path. So much for winning right?

You and the AI’s working together….beautiful…

Yeah yeah your probably thinking”It’s just a Scarab right? I’ve dealt with these before.” Well think again. In Halo 3 the Scarab has its own A.I. and its own unique set of actions and reactions, which means getting aboard this guy isn’t going to be a picnic. Lucky for you, you can take ti down several ways. You can ride an elevator at the back of the level to the top of an expertly placed crane and aboard the Scarab from the crane; or you can damage the walker’s legs, which over time will cause it to buckle and let’s you reach it from the back; OR(this is a goo done) you can trick it into getting stuck in the buildings and jump aboard from a rock outcropping. Once you reach the inner hull it is a little easier than the Halo 2 Scarab. Alright now that thats done, it’s Party time right? WRONG! Your just getting started…

This is where you reach the climax of the mission. Finally your favorite Elite, The Arbiter joins the fight (With Johnson of course.), to help you take out a final horde of Brutes taking cover in a warehouse. Your going to fight about 12 Brutes in this one. All equipped with Brute Shots or the very cool, Brute Mauler. But the factory workers form they Brute taken area join you in your fight. But they don’t last too long against those Brute weapons.

Even if they do survive the fierce battle with the Brutes, they most likely won’t survive the two Hunters that Ambush The Chief and his men. Now your usual dodge and shoot tactics would still work, but not as well. The reason being is that Hunters can now Grad their enemies. And if you let the fight go on too long the nearby Brute Chieftain will join the fight. Now this guy not only has his own personal shield. His Gravity Hammer can kill people in just about one hit. Not even a direct hit either, because it can generate scatter field of damage. Your in for one hell of a fight…

Check out how good those graphics look. They make this Brute look HORRENDOUS!

Once he is taken out, your almost to the final objective. The Covenant anti-aircraft gun which is preventing Human craft from reaching the giant gash in the Savannah where the Covenant discovered The Ark. The gun is placed on a small cliff, and the only way up is gaurded by a massive army of Covenants actually Bungie has said that this one battle features more enemies than the entire first level of Halo 1–Wow…just wow. This won’t be so hard to believe once Master Chief, The Arbiter,Johnson,Marine, and a small amount of Civilians rush a Huge group of legion Grunt,Brutes, and shielded Jackals….good luck guys. Your going to need it.
There are so many enemies in the area, that ammunition becomes extremely scarce. Especially since one Brute has an Invincibility thing he uses when he gets attacked.Lucky for us we only have to take out the AA gun, not the army. It’s weakness is a small opening at it’s base that become visible after each round. A couple good shots will rid the sky of the AA gun’s terror. And let Miranda Keyes land her huge drop ship..in time to try and prevent the Covenant form reaching the Ark.

Sorry guys, but what happens next is kept secret from us by Bungie. I don’t know what happens after the skirmish not to mention what’s in The Ark. Bungie will not tell anyone this until the game has been completed. But stick with Supervgx.com and keep checking back for our Halo 3 updates. Which will now be around weekly. Thanks for reading.
